Here are the six, specific PGA Tour 2026 rule changes:
- Unknowingly Moving a Ball: If a player causes their ball to move without realizing it (and plays it), the penalty is reduced to 1 stroke instead of 2.
- Expanded Embedded Ball Relief: Free relief is now allowed if a ball embeds in any unrepaired pitch mark in the general area (fairway height or less), not just the player's own.
- Internal Out of Bounds (O.B.): Internal O.B. markers now only apply to the initial tee shot, and are treated as obstructions for all subsequent shots.
- Immovable Obstructions Near Green: Free relief is granted from immovable obstructions (like holes left by removed sprinkler heads) when playing from the fringe or apron, provided both ball and obstruction are within two club lengths of the green.
- Damaged Club Repair/Replacement: Players may repair or replace a significantly damaged club during the round using spare components, without it counting as a 15th club, provided the damage was not caused by abuse.
- Reduced Preferred Lies Area: When "preferred lies" are in effect, relief is reduced from one club length to one scorecard length (roughly 11 inches).
